Reading hub opens without vanity metrics

Open counts alone hide whether users found value. Pair opens with return windows and depth before you celebrate a launch.

App hubs love open-rate charts. A spike after a featured placement looks like success until week two, when return rates flatten and support tickets rise about “what this app actually does.”

A useful engagement read pairs first open with a return window (for example, open again within seven days) and a depth signal your product already logs — a completed task, a saved preference, or time past an empty state. Opens without either are curiosity, not adoption.

When we baseline a hub, we ask owners to name those depth signals before we pull data. Otherwise the analysis only restates the dashboard they already distrust.
